Karli Miller returns a shot in her doubles match with Mercedes Alcantarfor Monache on Monday.
SHE'S famous, alright! Well- if getting your photo in the Porterville Recorder qualifies as fame- then she's famous--and around here it does qualify as fame! Nearly every photo of Monache girls tennis team for the last four years has featured their #1 player. In fact we were just commenting how tired we were of always seeing her picture in the paper. So after four years of playing tennis- Karli finally got her turn!
We realize that she probably came about it in not the most illustrious manner. You see they were playing the last place team in the league and most of the games were reading MHS 6- Mission Oaks -0. Karli and her doubles partner, Mercedes, turned in the only "nail biter" of the entire competition- they were trailing 2-5 and finally got their act together and pulled a 7-5 win. Not their best day- they both looked like they were asleep out there. Their comeback win, however, was about the only excitement of the afternoon- and thus they became "heroes" and Karli (were sorry Mercedes wasn't included) at least earned the coveted photo spot. The day ended with a MHS 18-0 victory over Mission Oaks.
Their team is currently undefeated and sitting alone at 1st place in league. We are hoping that they can maintain that lead and come out as league champions--it would be a great way to finish off Karli's high school tennis experience! Wish them luck and NO reruns of yesterday's performance--well except for the win! :)
