Our next summer trip was pick up Karli after she completed her second semester at BYU Idaho. Our first stop was at Mt. Pleasant, Utah to visit with Judy and Dave and John and Cyd at their cabins. Michael had never seen their new cabins and we had a great time at their places in spite of a very rainy weekend.
Everyone gets around in this nifty little vehicles.
We had fun driving them around Judy's place and up the mountain to John's cabin.
Visiting John's cabin on the mountain- just beautiful up there!
Having fun at the cabin
These two helped Lora Lynn finish a huge jigsaw puzzle- she'd been working on it every weekend she was in Mt. Pleasant for the last few weeks.
She was so happy to have some help finishing it!
We took Michael to the Ephraim grave sites of his 3X great grandparents- he had never been there and of course, I just love to go there. We also went to see the Manti temple. Unfortunately I forgot my camera. BOO! We enjoyed the new Spiderman movie in Manti and dinner at the local Mt. Pleasant pizza parlor. We had a great time!
From there we headed up to Salt Lake City and spent some more time with John & Cyd and Judy & Dave. We did some shopping, went to the Bountiful Temple, and I got to go to lunch with my cousin Ruthann. We had a great time catching up.
Then it was on to the main purpose for this trip-- to Rexburg to pick up our Karli- girl. It was great to see her again! We helped her move her things into storage and clean her apt. On our way back to SLC we stopped in Kaysville and visited Grandma Dorothy's grave.
It had been a long time since we had been there.
We wanted to end our trip with something adventurous so we decided to go white water rafting on the Weber River. So much for adventure! The water was pretty low and the rapids really mild- kind of like the lazy river at a water park.
In spite of it- we had a fun morning together.
This is about as "wild" as the rapids got! Whoo-Hoo!
Didn't even faze me- the ultimate scaredy-cat!
We headed for home with an overnight stop in Las Vegas. Marty and Sarah were there with Gary, Kelli and kids for the weekend. It was fun to see all of them. We stayed at the "Golden Nugget" where we got to swim in the "shark tank". Well not quite- but we were surrounded by sharks and all sorts of other fishies as we swam. They even had a water slide that went right through the shark tank. Karli was in heaven with all the marine life surrounding her!
One of her new friends!
See- I told you they were friends! Mr. Sharkie wanted to be in the family photo too!
Some more family shots!
Yup- that's a shark fin passing behind Karli! YIKES!
Here's the water slide and if you look really close you can see Karli and Michael whizzing past! The sharks are still following them.
After one night in Vegas- we all pretty much agreed it is one of our least favorite cities in the world- at least the Strip that is. But we had to admit the shark tank pool was pretty cool.
From there we headed back to Porterville and we were glad to get our girl back home. We were only home a day before Michael headed on a Scout trip with the Ward Varsity Scouts to Pear Lake and Gary headed up to Girls Camp for the week.
Funny what a difference a few years make. When Michael was a scout he wasn't always very keen on going on Boy Scout backpacking trips. But this time, as a leader, he was so excited and completely enjoyed it. Notice how he hijacked Gary's Scout shirt and his Eagle pin? Looks like being a Boy Scout 'aint so dorky after all!
